Disaster at the Bank

WWE Money in the Bank took place on Sunday night and what a disaster it was.  Expectations for the PPV was high as previous MITB PPV's have all been one of the best shows of their respective years, and WWE also had the chance to turn around it's dismal fortunes when it comes to PPVs.

Bálor, Strowman and Kofi slug it out for the contract!

As with any Money in the Bank show the ladder matches are the highlight of the show with the concept being enough to draw in the fans, with multiple wrestlers all competing in the same ring for the chance to retrieve the briefcase and guarantee themselves a match for their brands World Title.  In this year's men's Ladder match we had Braun Strowman, Bobby Roode, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, Kofi Kingston, Rusev, Samoa Joe, and The Miz all vying for the case.  The match was also the shows main event and after a meager 19 minutes it was Strowman who grabbed the case and won the match.  Now, although Strowman is a fan's favorite the problem here lies with the fact that Braun could win the Universal Championship without the aid of cashing in on a prone champion, and a cash-in victory would also hurt his reputation as a genuinely powerful and successful wrestler.  People such as The Miz and Finn Balor however could have benefited from winning the match as The Miz is notorious for heel turns and a cash-in would allow him to do this once again, and Balor would have needed all the help he could have got in order to dethrone Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.

In the Women's Ladder Match Alexa Bliss got the better of Becky Lynch, Charlotte, Ember Moon, Lana, Naomi, Natalya, and Sasha Banks in an 18 minute contest.  Going into the match crowed favorites Lynch, who needed the win, and Sasha Banks were the wrestler believed to be in contention for winning.  After all was said and done it was Little Miss Bliss that left the ring with the briefcase in tow.  In a shocking turn of events, Bliss interrupted the match between Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey, attacking both wrestlers and successfully cashing  in her briefcase of Jax.  Alexa Bliss has now spent more of her main roster tenure with, than without a title.

AJ Styles retained the WWE Title against Shinsuke Nakamura once again, this time in a Last Man Standing match.  I love AJ Styles but the problem I have is that Nakamura is an all time great competitor and to be unsuccessful against the same opponent on 4 consecutive PPVs really does hinder the sell-ability of his talent.  I just hope that Nakamura's luck takes a 180 turn and he can get back to his old, winning ways.  Daniel Bryan defeated Big Cass, and Roman Reigns got the better of Jinder Mahal in two predictably boring affairs.  If WWE hopes to regain the trust of the fans and their future investment then they are going to have to up the quality of their product.  That's your lot about Money in the Bank, I think it's better that we move on.  Please comment, like, and follow!
