Top 5 Factions in History

Hello everyone and welcome back to Wrestling Boom, is it just me or is Raw getting worse every single week? Smackdown, on the other hand, seems to be on the rise.  Now to the article, I have always loved factions, whether that be because of the heat they can garner, the storylines they help create or the simple idea that being a part of a faction can elevate any wrestler to stardom beyond their comparability as a singles competitor.  Here are my Top 5 factions is wrestling history!

5) Evolution

Evolution was formed at Unforgiven 2002 when Ric Flair aided Triple H in defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Rob Van Dam, becoming The Game's mentor in the process.  Within 3 months both Batista and Randy Orton would join the faction enabling the 4 superstars to dominate the Raw roster until August 2004, holding the WHC, Intercontiental, and World Tag Team Titles in the process.  After Summerslam 2004 the faction turned on newly crowned World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton beginning their decline.  After their implosion at Mania 21 in 2005, the Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista would reform the group in Spring 2014 in order to take on The Shield, a rivalry which they lost 2-0.

4) Los Ingobernables de Japon

After spending a considerable amount of time in CMLL in Mexico, Tetsuya Naito returned to NJPW a completely different person, now being more determied, more ruthless, and more integral than ever before.  Wanting to continue the legacy of Los Ingobernables from Mexico he founded the Japanese branch of the stable in November 2015 with Bushi, Evil, and Rush.  Since then the group has recruited Hiromu Takahashi and Sanada taking both men to levels that have far surpassed their pre-LIJ days.  Together the LIJ members have captured all major NJPW Titles as well as winning 4 tournaments including the World Tag League (Sanada & Evil) in 2017.  The factions is still running roughshot over NJPW today.  LIJ have been more constantly better in the ring than Bullet Club.

3) Immortal

The founding of Immortal shook the wrestling world to it's core.  At the end of the main event of Bound For Glory 2010, Jeff Hardy accepted a crutch off Hulk Hogan to fend of Eric Bischoff, only to hammer Kurt Angle and Mr. Anderson.  This allowed Hardy to capture the TNA World Title for the first time and was the most unexpected heel turn in TNA/Impact history and boy, was it a good one.  Immortal and Hardy, playing a dark reflection of his inner self, ran over the TNA roster for 6 months taking on all comers inducing Matt Morgan, Anderson, and Samoa Joe before Hardy got into drug trouble.  Bully Ray joined the faction in March 2011 and quickly became the new face of the faction once Hardy was out of the picture.  It wasn't until April 2012 when the faction finally folded under the leadership of Eric Bischoff and Ric Flair.

2) New World Order

The New World Order, or NWO, was formed in WCW by Kevin Nash and Scot Hall who had joined the promotion from the WWF in 1996.  At The Bash the same year they would recruit Hulk Hogan and form the foundation of the factions membership; this was the wrestling equivalent of Vader's reveal that he as Luke's father, as Hogan had never been seen as heel to wrestling fans.  In April 1998 the faction would split into two groups, those being NWO Hollywood headed by the Hulkster and Scot Hall, and NWO Wolfpac headed by Kevin Nash and Randy Savage.  The faction was hated by millions and love by many more and almost caused WCW to win the Monday Night War.  The NWO would take a stance in the WWF only to be short lived and a shadow on their former selves.

1) The Four Horsemen

Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, and Ole Anderson, managed by JJ Dillon, also known as the Four Horsemen, were the fore bearers of wrestling factions and would shape the future of the wrestling industry.  The faction had several incarnations between 1985 to 1998 and appeared mostly in the NWA and WCW.  All members held gold whilst apart of the faction including catapulting the NWA World Title, the United States Title and the WCW Tag Team Championships.  In the Horsemen's final stages Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko (newer members) left Flair due to his selfishness, effectively ending the group.  The Horsemen's legacy will live on forever in the world of wrestling.
