Dominion: Best Show Ever

Last night in Osaka NJPW held their annual June PPV Dominion for the 10th year running.  Over the past few years many have argued that Dominion has outperformed the promotion's signature show, Wrestle Kingdom, both in terms of in-ring action and shock-factor.  In 2016 Tetsuya Naito successfully retained the IWGP Heavyweight Title over Kazuchika Okada, in 2017 Okada and Kenny Omega put on what is considered the best wrestling match in history by millions around the world.  This year's show was no different being consistently entertaining and delivering a main event that rounded off the show perfectly.

After months of build up, in which Chris Jericho claimed on Twitter that he had finished with New Japan only to attack Tetsuya Naito at Wrestling Dontaku in May, Naito and Jericho finally got to go head-to-head in a match in which the LIJ leader would put his Intercontinental Championship on the line.  The match started before the bell had officially rung and featured a couple of Walls of Jerichos to no avail and Naito hitting the Destino, but it was Mr Y2J that finally got the victory 17 minutes in following a Codebraker for the pinfall.  This was a fantastic contest that proved why Jericho, although 47 years of age, is still one of the best in the world.  It's just a shame that Naito has been stripped of the Title in order to push Jericho.  Apart from Hiromu Takahashi capturing the Junior Heavyweight Title from Will Ospreay, Los Ingobernables de Japon didn't have the best of nights as it wasn't just Naito that lost a belt but also the team of Sanada & Evil lost their IWGP Tag Team Titles to the Young Bucks, of rival stable the Bullet Club.  The match featured a lot of fast-paced action and reversals, even a botch, before the Bucks were able to hit a 450 splash and Moonsault on Sanada for the win.

The main event was Kazuchika Okada vs. Kenny Omega IV in which Okada would defend his Heavyweight Title against Omega for the 3rd time in around 15 months, but this time it would be 2 out of 3 falls.  This bout was up there with the best proving that both men have the ability to put on a showstopper anytime they like.  Finishing moves connected throughout with Okada getting the first fall and Omega the second.  After an impressive finishing stage of a Piledriver, a couple of German Suplexes, and a Reverse Hurracarana, Omega finally got the third fall, seeing off Okada with the One Winged Angel.  Omega had done what everyone had failed to do, dethrone Okada and capture the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, bringing the title back to the Bullet Club for the first time since July 2015.

Dominion really was a delightful show that could perhaps have been the best NJPW show of all time.  What are your thoughts on Dominion? Please comment, like and follow....Thank Boomers.
