Greatest WWE Video Games of All Time!
WWE officially broke into the video game scene in 1989 with the Super Nintendo classic WWE Wrestlemania, a game which featured superstars such as the Hulkster, Honky Tonk Man, and Andre the Giant. Ever since Wrestlemania was released 29 years ago, WWE, or the game publishers, have never looked back. Join me as we count down the top 5 installments from the vast 28 game history!
5) WWE 2K14
The first game to be fully published by 2K, although developed by Yukes, there was a high amount of anticipated from the millions of WWE fans worldwide for 2K14, and the game did not disappoint. After WWE 12 and WWE 13, which were both shoddy, 2K14 revitalized the WWE series with both enhanced visuals and 30 Years of Wrestlemania, a game mode which enabled the player to replay the greatest machetes from Mania history, being just two reasons the game was an instant hit. The Streak and Universe modes added to the content depth and made up for the fact that a traditional career mode was not included. The Rock featured as the cover star with an Undertaker Streak variation being the special edition. 2K14 was released on October 29th 2013, was the last game to feature the old scratch logo, and received 8.7/10 from IGN.
4) Smackdown vs. Raw
WWE Smackdown vs. Raw was the first instillation of the much loved series and was released on November 2nd 2004. The game was so popular it became a PlayStation Platinum title, meaning it sold over 300,000 copies in the UK alone, and was even nominated for the 2004 Spike Awards for the best fighting game. The roster features a diverse number of superstars from both Raw and Smackdown, includes backstage brawls, and a fun PPV mode in which the player can create their own PPVs and created championship can be defended. The cover of Mr. McMahon, one eye blue and one red, is enough to get the game a high rating on it's own. If you haven't already pick up the PS2 controller and 'play the game'.
3) WWF No Mercy
The first wrestling game of the century, WWF No Mercy is an absolute thriller, and i'm not lying. Some fans still claim to this day that the Nintendo 64 classic is the greatest wrestling video game of all time. The game is the first to include backstage fights and also the ability to hit moves on the announcer's table. It also adds mixes both an arcade fighting feel with RPG storytelling that gives the player a complete, and well-rounded game. The Rock, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels are the main wrestlers, encapsulating the Attitude Era perfectly. No Mercy received 89% overall.
2) Smackdown vs. Raw 2007
The greatest game in the Smackdown vs. Raw series, SvR 2007 had it all, from a varied roster of Raw, Smackdown and retired wrestlers, to the grunge of the Ruthless Aggression era in it's soundtrack. What stands out most about this game, however, is the career mode which sends the player (who can use either a created or real life superstar) on the most in-depth journey ever seen on a WWE game. The player begins on their choice of either Smackdown or Raw and once completed that brand's story get drafted to the respective other. SvR 2007 introduced analogue stick fighting, crowd hotspots, and a new variety of backstage areas to brawl. This truly is a great game.

1) Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain
Here it is...the good old number 1 spot, and taking that spot is no other than the amazing Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain. This game is the epitome of not just the Ruthless Aggression Era but also WWE as a whole, from a compelling career mode to the inclusion of Ultimo Dragon, Rey Mysterio, and John Cena for the first time, this game had everything a WWE fan could wish for. Brock Lesnar takes the cover in what is one of the best game covers in history as, let's face it, Lesnar brings the pain. It won Spike's award for the best fighting game of 2003 and has a rating of 85/100 overall. Pick this game up if you haven't already and have some fun.
