Why WWE is Failing
WWE, over the past few years, has declined hugely both in terms of popularity of a mass scale and respect level from even the most loyal fans. Since Brock Lesnar won the Universal Title at Wrestlemania 33 the product has quite frankly been agonizing for 90 percent of the time, with the expectation of a few quality angles/ matches. Anything featuring The Miz, Jeff Hardy, Alexa Bliss, or AJ Styles, tends to get over quick well, but not even the Phenomenal one can overcome the anger of him retaining the WWE Title against Shinsuke Nakamura on 4 consecutive PPVs. All main roster storylines not featuring these four competitors plummets the interest of the crowd, not because the wrestlers are incapable of being entertaining but because WWE has lost it's touch on how to effectively utilize their talents in a captivating manner.
A prime example of how much WWE has dropped in quality over the past few years is Daniel Bryan. In 2013 going into 2014 Bryan was on fire, everything he did was quality and the fans loved him for it, WWE could do no wrong when it came to the leader of the Yes Movement. In 2018, however, Bryan fails to compare to his worst days of 2013 with his feud with Big Cass being as entertaining as watching a snail scale a garden wall. Samoa Joe was in a similar situation with Roman Reigns which was so unpopular it gained genuine heat, causing thousands of fans to leave the Prudential Center half way through their Backlash main event. Instead of having superstars, who the universe love, compete in meaningless rivalries which even the casual fans know aren't leading anywhere, WWE should take lessons from NJPW, and have these superstars hold the titles, take victories, and make an impact. Just look at Kenny Omega defeating Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Title; the fans loved Omega, wanted him to become champion and when he finally did win the big one it satisfied the hunger of the thousands in attendance. It also catapulted Omega to new heights and proved that, ultimately, NJPW listens to it's fans.
Another factor that created WWE's success in the past but is barely present in the modern age are factions. As simple as it seems, the absence of formidable factions has caused a lack of storyline swerves and talking points to take place. DX, Evolution, and The Shield dominated the roster at their respective times, captured the gold, and left an impression that can never be replicated. DX helped revolutionize the Attitude Era and brought WWE's edgier side to the public, causing such an impact that the landscape of the company changed forever. You can't exactly say the same about Sanity. WWE seriously needs to look at creating some factions that are comprised of the biggest names in the company and can be a serious threat to the champions, just like LIJ and Bullet Club are in NJPW. So, making the popular superstars meaningful, and creating powerful factions are just two ways in which the WWE could regain popularity, but what would you like to see them change?
