World of Sport...Improving!

On Saturday ITV brought us the second installment of the rejuvenated World of Sport Wrestling, now better known as WOS, which drew in over 600,000 viewers.

The show opened with the trio of current WOS Champion Rampage Brown coming to the ring with fellow heel cohorts Sha Samuels and Danny Hope in a segment they liked to call their Championship celebration.  We all know that celebrations never last long in the wrestling world and this one was no different, as just a few minutes in Joe Hendry made his was into the arena to challenge Rampage to a Title match right there, right then.  With GM Stu Bennett at ringside to call the shots, the match was on!  In an intense encounter that showed Rampage in much better light, thanks to Grado not being involved, both men got a couple of near-falls, hit signature moves and generally got the audience excited for the rest of the show.  This was worthy of being the main event, but even as the opener it was a match that helped to legitimize Rampage as Champion as he saw off Hendry with a DDT to retain the gold.

The second match saw Gabriel Kidd win a 4-way ladder match to win a 'big opportunity', which was not made clear to the audience but due to be released next week, over Robbie X, Lionheart, and Liam Slater in a match that featured minimal use of the ladders.  It was a decent contest but lacked desire and the ability to effectively use the stipulation to the wrestlers advantage.  To advance to the next round of the Tag Team Title tournament, Adam Maxted and Nathan Cruz got the better of Doug Williams and HT Drake in a good bout.  The best part of this match was seeing, for the first time, how Maxted and Cruz really operated as a heel tandem; they were interesting, oozed confidence, and kept the crowd intrigued.  They will go on to face Rees and Sabian in the next round.

In the main event the Women's Championship was up for grabs in an awesome three-way encounter in which Kay Lee Ray, Viper, and Bea Priestley went at it.  The match worked tremendously well with Priestley and Ray often teaming up to get the better of the larger Viper until Priestley turned on Ray with a Superkick variant.  After a decent running time it was Ray who bested her competitors to become the inaugural WOS Women's Champion.  I really hope that Ray can make something special of this title reign and get the worldwide recognition she rightfully deserves.

This week's WOS episode was far superior to last weeks and was hopefully that start of things to come from the ITV promotion.  What are your thoughts on WOS?  Please comment and stay tuned.
