TOP 5 MATCHES IN SMACKDOWN HISTORY

Smackdown has been on our TV's every week for the past 19 years and will celebrate it's 1000th episode tomorrow night in Washington D.C.  With talents such as Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, and AJ Styles competing on the brand over the years the show has played host to some of the most entertaining and fascinating matches in all of wrestling.  Let's take a look at Smackdown's Top 5 Matches in History!

5)  AJ Styles vs Dean Ambrose- Jan 31, 2017

AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose were Smackdown's two best competitors between July 2016 and March 2017 and this, along with their clash at Backlash, proved why the two were given the monumental task of elevating Smackdown to the same level as Raw when it went live after the Superstar Shake-Up.  At the time of this contest AJ Styles was the WWE Champion after winning the belt from Amrbose 4 months earlier, with Ambrose being on a warpath to regain the belt.  The match was back-and-forth, with most moves contributing to the match in a positive way.  Although The Miz and Baron Corbin interfered in the contest causing Ambrose to have to fight them off they did not ruin the finish as the Phenomenal One was able to hit the Styles Clash for the pinfall victory.

4) Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit vs Edge & Christian vs Dudley Boyz vs Hardy Boyz- May 24 2001

After Edge and Christian defeated the Hardy Boyz and the Dudleyz at Wrestlemania X7 we all thought that we'd have to wait a good while in order to get another TLC match, but little did we know that 2 months later the 3rd ever TLC match would take place.  This time the same three teams that faced off at Mania and Summerslam (the year before) would be joined by the newly formed team of Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit who had recently captured Tag Team gold.  This match was fast paced and hard hitting and allowed all four teams the freedom to express their raw talent.  The only negative here is that Benoit did injure his neck and would be sidelined for around a year, but it didn't stop the contest nor did it stop the Rabid Wolverine and Y2J from retaining the Titles.

3)  Edge and Rey Mysterio vs Los Guerreros- Oct 24, 2002

Another tag team match on this list, Edge and Rey Mysterio vs Los Guerreros was one of those contests you just love, and I mean LOVE.  At the start of the Ruthless Aggression Era the Blue Brand was home to the Smackdown Six with this match featuring four of those six in the best way possible, with  Edge running wild, Eddie and Chavo dazzling the audience, and Mysterio pilling off his usual acrobatic moves and proving why he is the Ultimate Underdog.  The stakes were high with the teams battling for number 1 contendership to the WWE Tag Team Titles with both teams putting it all out there.  After around 7 minutes of controlled chaos, Kurt Angle interfered, not enabling us to have a clear winner but Edge ensured Angle paid the price with a Spear.

2)  Kurt Angle vs Eddie Guerrero- Sept 2, 2004

Kurt Angle and Eddie Guerrero, two of the superstars who personify the meaning of Smackdown in the Ruthless Aggression Era and are two of the most technically gifted wrestlers of all time.  This match was a 2 out of 3 falls contests and was an absolute treat for everyone watching; who better two compete in such stipulation than an Olympic Gold Medalist and the man who Lies, Cheats, and Steals.  Angle and Guerrero were absolutely fantastic in this one and although expectation were high they still blew the fans minds with the match being a pleasure to watch from start to finish.  Angle won the match, getting revenge on Eddie for beating him 6 months earlier at Wrestlemania XX.

1)  Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar- Sept 18, 2003

At number 1 is thee spectacular classic Iron-man match between Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar.  Both competitors were All American Wrestlers, Suplex fanatics, and down right tough guys and that is exactly what the match was all about.  The match featured many holds, throws, and brawling making the match feel more like a fight than a square-circled competition.  Both men were Smackdown staples and the stakes couldn't be higher as the Undisputed Title was on the line, a belt both men had held a couple of times previously.  Lesnar had the advantage so Angle went for his signature Ankle Lock, however time ran out allowing Lesnar to win the match, 5-4, and the Title for the 3rd time.

So Angle and Lesnar take the top spot which which is your favorite Smackdown match in history?  Please comment and come back soon.  Thank you all for the amazing support.
