Top 5 Money in the Bank Matches

Hello folks and welcome back to Wrestling Boom.  Quick fact, did you know that Chris Jericho created the Money in the Bank contest, yet Eric Bischoff often gets the credit.  With Money in the Bank 2018 under a month away I decided to re-watch some of the stipulations classic contests from over the years and have come up with my picks for the Top 5 Money in the Bank matches of all time....here they are.

5) Ladder Match- Wrestlemania 21

In the first ever Money in the Bank Ladder match Edge got the better of Chris Benoit, Kane, Chris Jericho, Christian, and Shelton Benjamin in an all Raw showcase.  This match really set the bar for all MITB matches that would follow, and concluded when Benoit had fought off Kane and looked likely to win the contest, only for Edge to hit the Rabid Wolverine with a chair and claim the briefcase for himself.  Edge cashed in against John Cena at New Year's Revolution in January 2006. 

4) Women's Ladder Match- Smackdown, June 2017

Just over a week removed from the first ever women's MITB Ladder match the same participants would go at it once again, this time on Smackdown with Carmella putting her previously won case on the line.  The match featured Charlotte, Tamina, Natalya, Becky Lynch, and eventual winner Carmella.  As with the first bout James Ellsworth interfered only for Lynch to see him off.  Lynch was close to winning the case but Carmella entered the ring, and like with Edge and Benoit, hit Lynch with a chair, climbed the ladder and rightfully kept hold of the briefcase.  The Princess of Staten Island would successfully cash in on Charlotte on the April 10th 2018 episode of Smackdown. 

3) All Star Ladder Match- Money in the Bank 2013

To qualify to for the 2013 Money in the Bank match each participant had to have either held the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship, hence the name All Star.  Randy Orton defeated RVD, Christian, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, and Sheamus in his third ever MITB appearance to capture his first ever briefcase.  The match saw Paul Heyman turn on CM Punk in a moment that sent Punk on a downward spiral; Orton would cash in on Daniel Bryan 2 months later at Summerslam with a little thanks to Triple H.

2) Smackdown Ladder Match- Money in the Bank 2011

In another great match from the Money in the Bank 2011 PPV, Daniel Bryan, Cody Rhodes, Sin Cara, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, Sheamus, and Wade Barrett when toe-to-toe in Smackdown's Ladder Match.  This match felt fresh with many less experienced or often lower card performers getting a chance to shine.  Sin Cara had his best outing in his career yet was still stretchered off after Sheamus slammed in through a ladder that was propped between the ring and the announcer's table.  Bryan would win the match and go on to cash in on the Big Show at TLC later that year winning the World Heavyweight Championship in only 7 seconds.

1) Ladder Match- Wrestlemania 23

At number one is the classic from Wrestlemania 23 in 2007 which is the most star studded Ladder Match in WWE history.  Mr Kennedy, of all people, would get the better of Edge, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Booker T, CM Punk, and Finlay.  This match featured some crazy action including Jeff Hardy hitting a leg drop from near the top of a ladder onto Edge, who was propped on a ladder between the ring and the guard rail.  Booker T managed to nail Orton with a Book-end of a ladder onto another ladder, and Kennedy hit Hornswoggle with a Green Bay Plunge.  Kennedy got the win after seeing of Punk in both men's first Wrestlemania appearance.

The wave of change continues to ripple throughout the wrestling world as it has officially been announced that, after 29 years wrestling for the WWE, The Undertaker has retired from the squared-circle. Randy Orton to Sign With AEW

Last week it was rumored that WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar was in talks with All Elite Wrestling, with a possible move after Wrestlemania 35, and this week, according to Destination PW , it is said that the Florida outfit has now approached 'The Viper' to be their first direct signing from WWE. Randy Orton has been with the WWE for 17 years and since his in-ring debut in April 2002 and has gone on to have 17 various title reigns across both the Raw and Smackdown brands as well as being a 2 time Royal Rumble winner and 1 time Money in the Bank winner.  Orton is one of the greatest wrestlers in the history of the company, and currently holds the position of the veteran heel, a role which would surely become void if he was to leave for AEW.  The motives for 'The Apex Predator' being in talks with AEW is not know, but is presumably linked with a bigger pay check and a less intense work schedule.  What we do know is that if Orton did jump ship a large portion of

Greatest Wrestlemania Ever!!!

Although this year's Wrestlemania is still a month and a half away, I thought why not get into the spirit of things a little early with a celebration of the PPV's epic history.  With a 35 year history, there have been several spectacular Showcase of Immortals events over the years, including Wrestlemania III, XVII, XIX, XXI, and XXXI, however I am now going to try my hardest to convince as many of you Boomers as possible as to why Wrestlemania XXIII is the most exceptional of them all.
