Is Raw Dying?

Image
Raw, WWE's flagship show, the longest weekly episodic program in the history of television, a 25 year old phenomenon that has gone from ballrooms to the biggest arenas around the world and has played host to thousands of spectacular matches, may very well be dying. According to Cageside Seats  Raw only managed to draw an average of 2.35 million viewers this past week, it's lowest audience in history.  Smackdown is generating around 2.2 million viewers a week making WWE's 'Premier Show' not so flagship and more sinking ship, something which comes as no surprise to any one us, you only have to look at the product and the roster to understand why.  Before we take a look at the current mishaps, let's just take a glance back at viewership of years gone by.  19 years ago in 1999, in the heart of the Attitude Era and the shows most popular time, Raw was pulling in about 5.5 million viewers, 10 years ago we it was watched by 3.5 million and only 5 years ago was

Top 5 Rey Mysterio Matches in WWE History

The Master of the 619, the Ultimate Underdog, the man formerly known as Calibri, is one of the greatest and most loved in-ring performers in the history of the wrestling world.  Mysterio is one of the original wrestlers to have brought the Lucha style to the mainstream and is known globally for his ability to make the action exciting and get the crowd buzzing.  After a three year absence, Mysterio has signed a two year deal with World Wrestling Entertainment, a move that shocked and surprised the Universe.  In celebration of his return to the WWE I have decided to take a look back at his 5 greatest WWE matches of all time! 5) Rey Mysterio vs. John Morrison- Smackdown September 4th 2009 This clash with John Morrison is probably the best non-PPV match of 2009 and is one of Smackdown's best matches of the decade as it saw two extremely talented, charismatic wrestlers, with perfect chemistry put on a clinic of a showing.  Going into this match Rey Mysterio was the Intercontinent

Aggression Beats Attitude

In the WWE Universe there has been much debate over the years as to which era is the pinnacle period of in-ring action whether that be the characters, the matches, or the wrestling itself, for some reason we are all drawn to one era over another.  Yet, here we are 16 years after the end of the Attitude Era and millions of fans still claim it to be the greatest time in wrestling history, however, there are others, like myself, that believe the era that followed was even greater, that being the Ruthless Aggression Era.  Here is why I believe that Aggression is better than Attitude when it comes to the quality of the WWE product. The Ruthless Aggression Era kick-started on March 25th 2002 with the initial WWE draft, and ended after the Great American Bash 2008, an event that became a main stay during the era and a year-on-year highlight.  Prior to the Draft Triple H, The Rock, Steve Austin, and The Undertaker had been main eventing more or less every show for the past 4 years, with

Top 5 Superstars in Raw History!

Hello Boomers and welcome back to another edition of wrestling boom action.  Last time out we took a look at Smackdown's best ever superstars in which The Undertaker was crowned number 1.  Today it only makes sense that we look at Raw's all time greats.  Remember guys, this only counts for the years in which the brands had exclusive talent, that being from 2002 until 2011 and then 2016 to the present day, anything before or in-between is not taken into consideration....here goes! 5) Randy Orton Randy Orton debuted in the WWE on Smackdown, however was soon sent to Raw and became a pivotal member of the brand, joining stablemates Batista, Ric Flair, and Triple H in Evolution.  Within 2 years Orton had captured the World Heavyweight Title standing atop the Raw mountain and has, since then, moved on to hold the WWE Title several times between 2007 and 2010 whilst being a member of the Red-brand.  During his time on Raw, Orton competed against, and bested, other top talen

Top 5 Superstars in Smackdown History!!!

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest tangent I am about to embark on, one in which I will attempt to list the top 5 superstars in the history of Smackdown.  When I say history, I mean the period between 2002-2011, when the initial brand split occurred, and then 2016 to the present day; two eras in WWE in which the brands had exclusive talent.  Personally Smackdown is my favourite brand, over Raw, when looking back due to the edginess of the wrestlers who competed in the blue-roped ring so trust me when I say, this is the hardest list I have ever made and having to leave some of the talent out made me genuinely upset due to childhood attachments.  But enough of my emotions, let's get down to it. 5) AJ Styles When the Draft Lottery, or Superstar Shake-up, returned to the WWE in July of 2016 the blue-brand instantly became Phenomenal when AJ Styles was drafted to Smackdown.  Styles has only been in WWE 7 months but made was the biggest pick they could have hoped for, and j

Hell in a Cell 2018 Review

Image
Last night, the AT&T Centre in San Antonio played host to WWE Hell in a Cell, a PPV that has quickly gained reviews on both sides of the spectrum, some loving the range of action the different matches provided, others, despising the chaotic finish of the main event.  Here is my review of the main matches from a PPV that, finally, ran for a logical and pleasant time of 8 bouts, rather than the 10 plus we have been getting as of late. In the opening match of the actual PPV, and what would be the match of the night, Jeff Hardy took on Randy Orton in a contest that would encapsulate the Hell in a Cell gimmick perfectly, so much so that is felt not like a gimmick but a situation that would force both men to fight for their lives. During the 25 minutes both men took a tonne of punishments, mostly Jeff Hardy's left ear, finishing moves were dished out, yet the action was paced in way that was a throw back to times almost forgotten.  The veterans rejuvenated their respective char

Top 5 Years in WWE History!!!

Hello folks and welcome back to Wrestling Boom.  Today I have decided to talk about one of the most highly debated topics in the wrestling world, that being the argument over which years are the best in the history of the WWE.  With many different wrestling styles, storylines, and characters gracing out screens over the years and many periods having both good and bad moments it is an extremely challenging task to try and decided upon the best 5 years in company history, but here goes! 5) 2015 2015 was a monumental year for the WWE and featured two events that changed the face of wrestling for years to come.  The first event being Wrestlemania XXI in which Seth Rollins cashed-in his MITB Briefcase during a match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns to finally capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.  The second big event was TakeOver Brooklyn which took the NXT brand from a developmental scheme to the third brand of the company with both the Sasha Banks vs. Bayley and Finn
