Greatest Wrestlemania Ever!!!

Although this year's Wrestlemania is still a month and a half away, I thought why not get into the spirit of things a little early with a celebration of the PPV's epic history.  With a 35 year history, there have been several spectacular Showcase of Immortals events over the years, including Wrestlemania III, XVII, XIX, XXI, and XXXI, however I am now going to try my hardest to convince as many of you Boomers as possible as to why Wrestlemania XXIII is the most exceptional of them all.

Wrestlemania 23 took place on 1st April 2007 and came to us live from Ford Field, in Detroit Michigan, which is a stadium built to enormous proportions allowing 80,000 excited fans to pack into the stands.  The night was off to a thrilling start from the very beginning (bar the pre-show) thanks to the opening Money in the Bank Ladder match in which Mr Kennedy got the better of Randy Orton, Edge, Finlay, Booker T, CM Punk, Jeff Hardy, and Matt Hardy in the most star-studded MITB match of all time.  The contest was chaotic, in a good way, from the bell, featuring many memorable spots including RKO's off ladders, Leg-drops to the floor, and colossal Bookends.  The crowd were into it and the all superstars were allowed to showcase their abilities.

The World Heavyweight Championship was on the line in a Title vs Streak match between Smackdown's two premier superstars of the era, Batista and The Undertaker.  The clash only went for over 15 minutes but was super intense with Taker being Powerslamed through an announcers table only to come back to defeat The Animal and capture the Big Gold for the first time in his career.  The feud between these two would continue for the rest of 2007 across multiple confrontations, but fans will never forget that it all started at Mania.

WWE Champion John Cena defended his Title against replacement opponent Shawn Michaels, who was stepping in for an injured Triple H in the show's main event.  Expectations were high for his one, but it was still a shock that the two legends showed so much chemistry throughout, with Michael's technical prowess being the perfect counter to Cena's ruthless brawling.  The contest went on for almost 30 minutes and could have gone either way, however, when all was said and done it was the Dr of Thuganomics that walked out with the belt still under his ownership.

Those were just the headline matches.  The PPV also featured, among others, a US Title clash between Chris Benoit and MVP, and the Battle of the Billionaires in which Mr McMahon's Representative Umaga lost to Donald Trump's representative Bobby Lashley, causing the Chairmen to have his head shaved bald in front of all in attendance.  Add to the in-ring action the electricity generated by the fans, then you have yourself the greatest Wrestlemania of all time.

I'd love to know what favourite Wrestlemania of all time is and why?  Please comment below.
