Elimination Chamber 2019 Review

Elimination Chamber 2019 came to us live from the Toyota Centre in Houston Texas just last night.  Anticipation for the show was high as the two chamber matches have been the main focus of WWE TV as of late, and though Fastlane comes before Wrestlemenia, the PPV still held purpose in building towards the Grandest Stage of them All.  With Elimination Chamber being surrounded by such immense expectations, did World Wrestling Entertainment deliver when it mattered? Here is my review of the latest PPV from the McMahon contingent!

The first Chamber match opened the show as six teams competed for the newly formed Women's Tag Team Championship.  The teams consisted of Riott Squad (Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan), Boss & Hug Connection (Sasha Banks & Bayley), Carmella & Naomi, Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville, Nia Jax & Tamina, and The IIconics (Billie Kay & Peyton Royce).  There was a lot of hype surrounding the match as the women of WWE haven't had tag team belts to fight for in 30 years, so all teams had a lot to live up to, and live up to it they did.  The match was fantastic from start to finish and went over 30 minutes, featuring a strong segment of 17 minutes before the first elimination took place, that being Naomi and Carmella.  15 minutes later and it came down to The Riott Squad against the Boss & Hug Connection.  Predictably, yet spectacularly it was Banks & Bayley that walked out as new Women's Tag Team Champions after seeing of Rose.  This was a great encounter that topped last year's women's Chamber match and if this match is anything to go by, then the new tag division is going to provide some exciting viewing.

In a rare PPV handicap match, Finn Balor had the challenge of going up against Intercontinental Champion Bobby Lashley and his sidekick Leo Rush.  The action in this match was shockingly fast paced and was more back-and-forth than I predicted.  Throughout the 9 minute encounter Balor was able to take it to both opponents and looked strong right until the end, with the numbers advantage not really being to his detriment.  When all was said and done, it was the Irishman that walked out of Houston with the Intercontinental Title over hit shoulder after what was a crowd-pleasing match.  Thankfully the Title now belongs to a much more deserving member of the roster, and has a much brighter future going into Mania.

In the main event, Daniel Bryan had the challenge of defending his WWE Title inside the steel structure against Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, and Kofi Kingston, in what was the most star-studded Chamber of all time.  The match featured some intese spots with Styles hitting a Phenomenal Forearm on Bryan, who was climbing the cage wall, Randy Orton seeing off AJ Styles with an RKO in what was a surprise elimination, and Kofi Kingston, with the aid of the chain-mail walls  destroying the Goat.  It was incredible to see Kingston have such a good run in a high status match and prove himself to be among the best athletes in WWE.  Daniel Bryan did, however, retain the belt after hitting the Running Knee on Kingston for the pinfall victory.

In terms of other matches, The Uso's defeating Shane & Miz for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles was a good result, Ronda Rousey retaining the Raw Women's Title over Ruby Riott was as expected, and Corbin taking on Strowman was a decent affair.
What are your thoughts on this year's Elimination Chamber event and how would you like to see the storylines develop?  Please comment and stay tuned.
