Top 5 Elimination Chamber Matches of All Time!
The Elimination Chamber match first appeared on our screens at Survivor Series 2002, thanks to the brilliant mind of Triple H (not Bischoff), and has played host to 22 WWE matches throughout it's 16 year plus history. Out of those 22 matches I have given myself the challenge of listing the top 5, something which, after much thought, I managed to complete. I have based the list off the quality of action, the competitors involved, and storyline development. Here are the top 5 Elimination Chamber matches of all time!
5) Smackdown Chamber- Elimination Chamber 2017
This was the first Elimination Chamber match to take place after the first Superstar Shake Up and was a Smackdown exclusive affair. The match was for John Cena's WWE Championship and featured opponents Bray Wyatt, The Miz, Baron Corbin, AJ Styles, and Dean Ambrose, making it a star-studded contest. Going into the match AJ Styles was the favourite to win the match and reclaim his Title from Cena, who defeated the Phenomenal One a month earlier at the Rumble. The match featured several Styles vs Cena segments, continuing their epic rivalry, but when all was said and done it was Bray Wyatt who walked out the new Champion after 35 minutes. After the match Randy Orton confronted Wyatt, setting up their match for Wrestlemania XXXIII.
4) Raw Chamber- Elimination Chamber 2010
This match featured a good variety of talent as veterans Triple H, Randy Orton, and John Cena were in the company of Kofi Kingston, Ted DiBiase, and Sheamus, allowing for some unique action to take place. The most memorable moments are Kofi Kingston getting his head rammed through part of the chain mail wall and Ted DiBiase pinning his former Legacy mentor Randy Orton after a Cena Attitude Adjustment. This match was for the WWE Title, which Cena ultimately won, however the emergence of Batista after the bout really shook things up. Mr McMahon allowed Batista to face Cena right then and there with the Title on the line. After a Spear and a Batista Bomb 'The Animal' walked out victorious, WWE Title in hand.
3) Raw Chamber- New Year's Revolution 2005
Taking place in Puerto Rico this match was heavily centered around the splitting of Evolution and developing storylines ready for Wrestlemania XXI. Triple H was defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton, Batista, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, and Edge, and would do anything to keep hold of the Big Gold. Predictably Edge, Jericho, and Benoit were all eliminated leaving the three former cohorts left standing. In the end, after Orton took out Batista, The Animal (still in Evolution) attacked Orton allowing Triple H to hit the Pedigree and retain his title. Triple H would lose the Belt, but it would be at Mania 21, to Batista , who also won that years Royal Rumble.
2) Smackdown Chamber- Elimination Chamber 2011
I love this Chamber match mostly for the latter part of the contest as after Wade Barrett, Big Show, Drew McIntyre, and Kane had all been eliminated we got a near 10 minute classic between Rey Mysterio and Edge to decide the eventual winner. The World Heavyweight Championship was on the line, with both Mysterio and Edge pulling out all the stops to walk out with the Title around their waist. Mysterio hit two 619's but Edge ultimately got the last laugh after a huge Spear for the pinfall victory. When we knew it was down to the former Tag Team Champions everyone knew we'd be in for a treat. After the match Alberto Del Rio attacked Edge, with Christian making the save and ending the match on a high.
1) Smackdown Chamber- No Way Out 2009
At the number 1 spot is the amazing showdown from Smackdown in 2009 which featured Edge, Jeff Hardy, Triple H, The Undertaker, Big Show, and Vladimir Kozlov going at it for over 35 minutes for the WWE Championship. The action was all round incredible and featured an entertaining opening segment as Hardy eliminated the current champion Edge in just under 3 minutes. This gave the match an extra flair as the crowd new that a new champion would be crowned that night. Hardy lasted a good portion of the contest before being take out by The Undertaker, leaving the Deadman and Triple H as the last two standing. The eventual winner was Triple H after a huge Pedigree. HHH would go on to Wrestlemania XXV to defend the WWE Title against Randy Orton, with Edge entering the Raw Chamber later the same night to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
