Top 5 Superstars in Smackdown History!!!

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest tangent I am about to embark on, one in which I will attempt to list the top 5 superstars in the history of Smackdown.  When I say history, I mean the period between 2002-2011, when the initial brand split occurred, and then 2016 to the present day; two eras in WWE in which the brands had exclusive talent.  Personally Smackdown is my favourite brand, over Raw, when looking back due to the edginess of the wrestlers who competed in the blue-roped ring so trust me when I say, this is the hardest list I have ever made and having to leave some of the talent out made me genuinely upset due to childhood attachments.  But enough of my emotions, let's get down to it.

5) AJ Styles

When the Draft Lottery, or Superstar Shake-up, returned to the WWE in July of 2016 the blue-brand instantly became Phenomenal when AJ Styles was drafted to Smackdown.  Styles has only been in WWE 7 months but made was the biggest pick they could have hoped for, and just 2 months into his time of Smackdown had won the WWE Title.  Since then Styles has remained on Smackdown until the present day, with many other wrestlers coming and going year on year, and has won the WWE Title 2 times, being it's current holder for over 300 days.  When not holding the WWE Title, Styles was the U.S. Champion.  Fights against Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, and Samoa Joe have been consistently entertaining and have proved why Styles in Mr. Tuesday Night.

4) Edge

Edge, where to start.  Edge is one of my favourite Superstars of all time, mostly because of his time on Smackdown in 2007-2011, a time when he really was the foundation of the brand.  The majority of the time back in the day, you rarely saw Edge without the World Heavyweight Championship nearby; If he wasn't holding the belt he was competing to regain it.  Edge first won the WHC from the Undertaker in May 2007 via Cash-in and went on to hold the greatest title in history 7 times over a four year period, making him the most successful superstar in Smackdown history in terms of World Title wins.  Whenever Edge entered the arena you instantly knew it was time to get down to business, no matter who he was facing, whether it be Batista, The Undertaker, or Kane, just to name a few of the competitors he has defeated.  Edge will always be remembered as a Smackdown guy by all that witnessed the era live.

3) Batista

Batista first burst onto the Smackdown scene in June 2005 when he was drafted to Raw whilst holding the World Heavyweight Champion, yes, it was Batista who was responsible for bringing the title to SD, which in turn made way for dozens of classic matches.  Batista had lengthy reigns as Champion in 2005, 2006, and 2007, one of those reigns playing host to my favorite rivalry in history, that being against The Undertaker, a rivalry in which Batista ultimately won.  Batista also lead the Smackdown team to victory over Raw at Survivor Series 2005 and teamed with Rey Mysterio to win the Tag Team Titles in 2005.  Batista was 'the guy' for a solid 3 years on Smackdown and, when not injured, featured on every PPV possible.

2) Rey Mysterio

Booyaka Booyaka, Mysterio is here coming in at number 2.  Mysterio kick-started his WWE career on the Smackdown brand in 2002 as part of the Smackdown Six (with Angle, Benoit, Edge, Eddie & Chavo), and would compete on the blue brand every year, bar one, until he the Supershow merger in 2011 making him Smackdown's second longest reigning resident.  Mysterio won the World Heavyweight Championship in a triple threat at Mania 22 with Angle & Randy Orton, and again at Fatal 4 Way in 2010.  Although not holding the WHC for a long period of time, Mysterio was a mainstay in the Cruiserweight division, holding the belt several times, and having intense rivalries with Eddie Guerrero, Edge, and Chris Jericho, all of which became instant classics in the process.  The sound of Mysterio's 2002-2004 Theme song gives me shivers every time...give it a listen guys.

1) The Undertaker

At the number 1 spot is non other than The Undertaker a man who, since being traded to Smackdown, has never left the brand and has put on epic encounters against Rey Mysterio, JBL, Batista, Kane, and Randy Orton, the best of which being against Orton at Armageddon 2005, and versus Batista at Survivor Series 2007 in Hell in a Cell matches.  Like Edge and Batista, The Phenom held the WHC multiple times and brought a sense of both legacy and admiration whenever he stepped foot inside a blue-ropes ring.  Undertaker's blood is surely blue and out memories of him are tainted the same color.  Taker, you will always be the Smackdown number 1.

That's the list folks, who is your greatest Superstar in Smackdown history.  Come back soon as next time it is Raw's turn.
